TORONTO- Air Canada (AC) resumes nonstop flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to San Antonio Airport (SAT), marking the first direct service since 2019. This seasonal route operates 3 days weekly from May through October, enhancing cross-border travel.
City leaders highlight the route’s role in economic growth, linking San Antonio businesses to Toronto’s financial hub. Demand from leisure and corporate travelers drives this revival, with plans for year-round expansion.

Air Canada Resumes Nonstop Flight
Air Canada (AC) reintroduces nonstop service from San Antonio International Airport (SAT) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), filling a gap left since 2019. The airline first launched this route in 2017 but suspended it two years later due to shifting market conditions.
Now, the flights run Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, departing SAT at 10:30 AM and arriving at YYZ after about 4.5 hours. Return flights leave YYZ on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6:20 PM.
Basic economy fares start at $246 one-way from SAT to YYZ and $296 return, per Air Canada’s booking site. Prices rise for added perks like checked bags, carry-ons, or business class seats.
According to San Antonio Report, this pricing strategy targets budget-conscious travelers while accommodating premium needs. The seasonal schedule aligns with peak tourism months, allowing Air Canada to test sustained demand before potential daily operations.
Flights depart SAT at 10:30 AM on operating days, covering 1,300 miles in roughly 4.5 hours. Passengers gain easier access to Toronto’s attractions, from cultural sites to business districts.
This route also connects to Europe via YYZ hubs, offsetting the 2024 cancellation of Condor Airlines’ nonstop Frankfurt service from SAT.
Saenz noted improved market conditions since 2019 support this revival. The airport now offers nine Mexico routes and one to Canada, broadening options for international flyers.

Economic Ties Strengthen Between Cities
San Antonio Airport Director Jesus Saenz and City Manager Erik Walsh emphasize the route’s impact on local development.
Toronto serves as Canada’s financial center, drawing investments and jobs to San Antonio. “Toronto is not only Canada’s largest city, but its financial hub,” Walsh stated at a press conference.
Greater:SATX CEO Sarah Carabias Rush praised the connection in an email. Nonstop service enhances regional competitiveness, expands market access, and positions San Antonio as a cross-border gateway, she noted.
Businesses seek direct links to Canada for trade, while leisure travel between the cities grows steadily.

Future Growth Plans
Saenz aims to extend Toronto flights year-round and daily by fall. “Our plans are to not end in October to demonstrate that the demand is there,” he said.
Leaders eye Europe reconnection soon, alongside Central and South American expansions. Mexico routes, like recent additions to Morelia and San Luis Potosí, already thrive.
Walsh and Saenz stressed ongoing work to attract more carriers. These steps make San Antonio more appealing for investments, reinforcing its role as a key US-Mexico-Canada connector.
