BENGALURU- An Air India Express (IX) flight to Bengaluru (BLR) was cancelled on Thursday after the aircraft was struck by a bird during taxiing.

The incident occurred when an eagle hit the nose of the aircraft while it was preparing for takeoff. The airline confirmed the flight was cancelled, and passengers were offered alternate travel arrangements.

Air India Express Cancels Flights

The bird strike took place before takeoff, preventing the aircraft from continuing its journey from Vijayawada (VGA) to Bengaluru (BLR). Airline staff immediately grounded the aircraft to ensure passenger safety, which remains the priority during such events.

Air India Express (IX) stated that engineers were called to inspect the plane and assess any potential damage. In line with aviation safety rules, the aircraft was not cleared to operate until a thorough check was completed.

While the cancellation caused delays, passengers were either accommodated on later flights or provided alternative travel options.

Recent Technical Snags Affecting Air India Express

This cancellation follows another disruption just a day earlier. At Tiruchirappalli (TRZ) airport, an Air India Express (IX) flight scheduled to depart for Sharjah (SHJ) at 4.45 am faced a technical issue.

Engineers worked on the aircraft while 176 passengers waited for several hours before being safely deboarded.

Airport authorities confirmed that the delay was caused by a technical snag, and the airline later arranged alternate solutions for passengers. The situation highlighted the importance of immediate technical response teams in preventing extended delays.

Previous Operational Disruptions

Air India (AI) has also faced challenges in recent weeks. On August 17, flight AI 504 from Kochi (COK) to Delhi (DEL) had to abort takeoff due to a technical fault.

The aircraft was stopped during taxiing, and all passengers were transferred to another aircraft.

The airline stressed that safety protocols were followed and assistance was provided on the ground.

Bottom Line

Bird strikes and technical issues are among the most common operational challenges in aviation. Airlines are required to carry out strict safety checks before clearing any aircraft to operate, even if that leads to cancellations or delays.

In these recent cases, both Air India Express (IX) and Air India (AI) prioritized safety, keeping passengers informed and arranging alternatives wherever possible.

Aviation authorities continue to monitor such events closely to ensure that operational safety standards remain uncompromised.
