FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) is restarting flights between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) after a 16-year hiatus.
The new route strengthens American Airlines’ regional connectivity within Florida and will begin operations on November 3, 2025.
This intra-Florida service will be operated daily by Envoy Air under the American Eagle brand using Embraer E175 jets.
The move reinforces Miami’s role as a key hub, offering over 60 onward connections to Latin America and the Caribbean.

American Airlines Restarting Intra-Florida Flight
American Airlines (AA) last operated the Miami (MIA) – Sarasota (SRQ) route in January 2009, using turboprop aircraft.
Now, 16 years later, the airline is reintroducing this domestic connection using regional jets to meet growing demand within Florida.
According to Cirium’s scheduling data, the new service will begin on Monday, November 3, 2025.
Though the distance is only 178 miles (286.5 km), the relaunch underscores the importance of regional air travel.
The new route offers travelers from Sarasota access to American’s extensive international network via Miami.
Passengers will benefit from seamless onward connections to destinations like San Juan (SJU), Aruba (AUA), and Bogotá (BOG).

American’s Growing Presence in Sarasota
Even before the relaunch of the MIA route, American Airlines held a strong position at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ).
The carrier is currently SRQ’s fourth-largest airline by market share, holding 13.64% of total passenger traffic.

These routes are served using a mix of mainline and regional aircraft, with the Airbus A319 being the most common aircraft used.
Miami International Airport (MIA) is American Airlines’ primary gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The reintroduction of the SRQ–MIA route means Sarasota passengers gain convenient access to 60+ onward international destinations.
Jordan Pack, Director of Domestic Network Planning at American Airlines, stated:
“Miami is our gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean… With this service, customers will be able to explore vibrant Puerto Rico, relax on the beaches of Aruba, or enjoy coffee in Colombia.”

Conclusion
American Airlines is strengthening its intra-state network in Florida by restarting flights between Miami (MIA) and Sarasota (SRQ) after a 16 year gap.
