ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) is intensifying its presence in Austin (AUS) with a new daily nonstop flight to Miami (MIA) starting November 22, 2025, challenging American Airlines (AA) in its hub. This expansion strengthens Delta’s focus city strategy, targeting 30 destinations.
Supported by a new flight attendant base, expanded gates, and a Sky Club, Delta aims to outpace Southwest Airlines (WN) and solidify its role as a key player at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

Delta New Flight From Austin
Delta Air Lines (DL) is accelerating its expansion in Austin (AUS), positioning the city as a key focus city with plans for 150 daily flights, 20–30 gates, two lounges, and a staff increase to 2,700–2,800 by 2031.
According to View from the Wing, Delta’s new Austin-Miami (MIA) route, launching November 22, 2025, on a Boeing 737-800, directly challenges American Airlines (AA) in its Miami hub while supporting Delta’s joint venture with LATAM.
The Austin-Miami route, Delta’s 30th destination from AUS, operates daily and connects two strong non-hub markets.
It competes with American’s three peak daily flights, Southwest’s five weekly services, and Frontier Airlines’ (F9) three weekly flights.
Delta’s broader 2025–2026 expansion includes new routes to Denver (DEN) on November 9, 2025 (Airbus A319), Columbus (CMH) and Kansas City (MCI) in November 2025, plus increased flights to Indianapolis (IND, three daily by June 7, 2026) and San Francisco (SFO, twice daily from April 13, 2025).
These routes leverage Austin’s demand for leisure and business travel, particularly to Latin America via Miami’s LATAM connectivity.

Infrastructure and Staffing Investments
Delta’s growth aligns with Austin-Bergstrom’s midfield concourse expansion (phased opening from 2030).
A 30,000 sq ft Delta Sky Club will debut in the concourse, with a temporary lounge converting to a Delta One lounge by 2031.
A new flight attendant base opens in October 2025, supporting a tenfold staff increase from current levels.
Delta’s 10-year lease (January 2026-September 2035) secures its anchor tenant status, vying for 20-30 gates against Southwest’s planned 200+ daily flights by 2031.

Market Performance
Delta carried over 1 million passengers at AUS in 2025 year to date, up 12% from 2024, holding 22% of flights and 19% of seats.
Southwest leads with 39% of flights and 41% of seats, while American saw a 16% passenger drop from January to July 2025.
Delta’s long-term Austin strategy, initiated seven years ago, capitalizes on American’s retreat from its former focus city status, positioning Delta to challenge Southwest’s dominance.

Strategic Partnerships
The Miami route strengthens Delta’s 2019 LATAM partnership, previously held by American, enhancing connectivity to Latin America.
Delta’s local engagement, including Austin FC sponsorship and Food Bank volunteering, embeds it in the community, supporting its bid to become Austin’s dominant carrier.
