HINDON- In a bold move that strengthens its domestic footprint in northern India, Gurugram-based IndiGo Airlines (6E) is all set to begin operations from Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport (HDO) starting July 20, 2025.

The airline will connect Hindon to eight major Indian cities, offering passengers an alternative to the crowded Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

With 63 weekly departures planned, IndiGo will edge ahead of Air India Express, which currently operates 62 weekly flights from the same airport.

This marks a significant expansion for Hindon, which has traditionally handled limited commercial operations. IndiGo’s arrival changes the game, and its network is well-positioned to attract both business and leisure travelers from the Delhi-NCR region.

Delhi-NCR’s Rising 2nd Airport

Hindon Airport will see a significant bump in the number of flights with IndiGo’s debut.

The airport, which is located in Ghaziabad, will serve as a convenient option for residents in the eastern and northern areas of Delhi-NCR. Residents, especially those in Noida, Ghaziabad, and East Delhi, will benefit.

Air India Express was the first airline to introduce services into Hindon, well before IndiGo. The airline launched its low-cost international operations from Hindon earlier this year.

However, IndiGo’s entry will take the airport’s relevance to a new level. With 63 weekly departures, it will surpass Air India Express in frequency from the very first week of operations.

Ahead of Noida Airport’s Opening

IndiGo’s expansion into Hindon seems a strategic consideration. There is an upcoming opening of Jewar’s Noida International Airport in 2025-26.

IndiGo, as well as Air India Express (IX), may be preparing to offer multi-airport access across Delhi-NCR. These airlines will have a competitive edge when Jewar becomes operational.

With robust domestic connectivity and smart scheduling, IndiGo’s expansion into Hindon seems to be a calculated step. It will not only open up new travel options for NCR residents but also solidify Hindon’s potential as a viable secondary airport for one of India’s busiest aviation regions.
