Hawaiian Flight Gets Bomb Threat

Hawaiian Airlines (HA) faced a critical security incident on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, involving a scheduled flight from San Diego (SAN) to Honolulu (HNL).

The aircraft, an Airbus twin-jet, had already left the gate at approximately 8:30 a.m. when a bomb threat was reported. Responding to the alert, Port of San Diego Harbor Police and multiple law enforcement agencies initiated an immediate response on the tarmac.

By around 10:30 a.m., passengers were seen deplaning under the supervision of emergency personnel. Law enforcement vehicles encircled the aircraft while K-9 units conducted a thorough search.

The plane was relocated to a secure zone, where authorities carried out safety protocols. No explosive devices were found, and airport officials confirmed that the remainder of the airport’s operations remained unaffected.

The source or credibility of the threat has not yet been publicly confirmed. However, such incidents prompt strict adherence to safety procedures in accordance with TSA and FAA guidelines.

Similar Incident

This incident in San Diego mirrors a similar event that occurred a day later at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). On May 15, 2025, American Airlines (AA) flight 2484, bound for New York LaGuardia (LGA), was delayed due to an onboard security threat.

A passenger had reported overhearing a conversation involving a bomb, leading to immediate action by airport authorities.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was isolated on the tarmac while all 180 passengers were evacuated and interviewed by law enforcement.

A temporary ground stop disrupted operations at DFW, the second-busiest airport in the U.S. FAA oversight ensured safety protocols were strictly followed before the flight was cleared to depart later that afternoon.

American Airlines (AA) issued a public statement confirming the threat had been investigated and found non-credible.

Despite the disruption, the incident highlighted the airline industry’s stringent approach to in-flight security threats and the coordination required among multiple agencies to safeguard passengers.

While these threats were ultimately deemed non-credible, they caused significant delays and operational shifts, reinforcing the necessity of a zero-tolerance policy for any potential security risk in air travel.
