Cathay Pacific Cancels 22 Flights

On Thursday, Hong Kong issued its fifth black rainstorm warning of the year, the highest level of rain alert, marking the most since the Hong Kong Observatory began recording in 1998.

Operational Recovery

Cathay Pacific confirmed that all affected passengers had been notified and rebooked onto alternative services. The airline strongly advised travellers to verify booking confirmations and check in online before heading to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

In addition, passengers were urged to monitor flight status for any last-minute changes, given the possibility of continued operational adjustments as weather patterns shift.

Airline’s Response

Cathay Pacific (CX) is actively working to restore its flight schedule as quickly as possible while ensuring safety remains paramount.

The airline has apologized for the inconvenience and expressed gratitude for passengers’ patience during this challenging period.

Flexible ticketing policies have been introduced, allowing affected travelers to rebook or reroute flights without additional charges for travel completed by October 31, 2025, subject to availability.

Passengers booked through third-party agents are advised to contact their agents directly for rebooking or refund assistance.

Impact on Regional Air Travel

The majority of cancellations were regional Asian routes, underscoring the vulnerability of short-haul schedules to severe weather disruptions.

Heavy rainstorms can significantly affect crew positioning, aircraft rotation, and airport operations, creating ripple effects across multiple destinations.

By implementing immediate cancellations, Cathay Pacific aimed to protect passengers from extended airport delays and allow for faster operational recovery.

While the weather system has passed, normal flight schedules are expected to resume progressively over the coming days.
